Description
This piece of
writing became necessary because I discovered that many of my colleagues had
challenges on how to practice pest control safely.Yes, they had the theoretical
knowledge but the practical working wisdom was lacking; especially to make a
living out of it.This deficiency or gap closure was envisaged.
Over the years we
lost many of our colleagues to untimely death due to unsafe handling of
pesticides as a result of ignorance. Some were found to be using hankerchiefs or
dust mask while carrying out pest disinfestation via the knapsack sprayer.A few
used the chemical respirator duly recommended for this kind of service either
because of its absence in the workplace or cheer negligence.
In this
presentation an attempt was made to impart the proper way of doing things in
this business of pest management.
The need to apply
an integrated approach to pest management was recommended.
In this field
knotty problems do surface and solutions have to be provided;which I have
attempted to do justice to in this small book.
Client education
is key to getting it right and so instructions to the client was covered. Also
general information on how to make a living by this business was also provided.
It is hoped that
this contribution will reduce the accident rate in the profession and also
improve the field performance of pest managers across board.
Dear reader in a
society like ours where pests and disease vectors constitutes serious hazards
to public health, food security, and general welfare of the
citizenry, disinfestation and disinfection is very necessary.
For the fact that
there is dearth of information on proper field operations when we talk of pest
and vector control and that many people(both professionals and quacks)have died
as a result of lack of proper use of chemicals for the control of
pest/vector,this book on field operations became more necessary.
I find this book
ideal for all pest and vector control service providers,Environmental health
professionals,Agricultural officers, students in school of hygiene and other
higher institutions that are undergoing studiesÂ
in Environmental health and entomology, safety students and teachers are
also involved. This book will help you to protect your life and that of your
client.
I also find
interesting the chapters on preparation
to make,check-up list before departure for the site, the maintenance of
wares, the field operation proper, the post operational report for field
evaluation and conclusion of a pest control and fumigation works. This will have
a positive impact on pest and vector control field operators.
Above all this
hand book is a master piece as it will help to promote health and quality
pest/vector control services in Nigeria. The author is one of the knowledgeable
professionals in Environmental Health practice in Nigeria.
